Health Update May 2024: Still Doing Okay on Mesalamine Taper

Well, here I am, down to one mesalamine pill a day, (with the Rinvoq, of course.) The first three or four days on the one pill my stomach was a little achy. Maybe more uncomfortable than achy. My stool was a lot more mushy. Admittedly, I was a little discouraged. But I realized that even if one pill didn't work, I now knew I could do two pills a day, instead of four, without any deterioration in my health.

About the fifth day, though, everything was fine. The stomach discomfort went away and my stool firmed up again. And two days ago was my best my bowel movement yet. My urgency has also improved, although I still have some mornings where the time between having the urge to go and realizing I cannot linger in bed any longer is very short.

Overall, my colitis symptoms are doing well at the moment. In a little under three weeks I will drop the mesalamine completely and rely solely on the Rinvoq. I am a little excited and a little nervous about that. Will I get worse or continue to do well?

We will see how the next month goes. (I say that a lot, don't I?)

Next update: June 2024, Doing Okay. However . . .
