I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis (UC), an autoimmune disease, at the age of 57. I am now in my sixties. When first diagnosed, I scoured the internet for information, especially from people going through this as they provide the best, most direct information.
As I did my scouring, however, I noticed that most people
with colitis who were online were young . . . as in the 15–30-year-old range.
If they were older, they were diagnosed in their youth and have had this
condition for decades. I could not find anyone online diagnosed later in life
or what differences that might mean for older adults, if any. So I decided to start documenting my journey as an older colitis patient. (Don't worry. Most of what I write about applies to younger colitis patients as well.)
This
site is not meant to be a comprehensive, all-go-to place for colitis as
there are many sites that cover that and I have included some of them
in the side links, as well as listing some great blogs at the bottom of this website. My site is more basic information and my experiences of life with UC.
I have learned so much, hope to continue learning, and hopefully, find things to laugh about along this journey.
